The private Concordia Argonaut Club, a San Francisco social group originally founded in 1864 by Levi Strauss and his friends to celebrate Jewish culture, was looking to move its membership into a smaller building. The private and equally social Presidio Golf Club had a beautiful 23,000 SF clubhouse built in 1898 perched on the edge of the Presidio Golf Course in the Golden Gate National Park.
It was a perfect match, overlapping cultures and interests to the benefit of all.
Enter FENNIE+MEHL Architects, tasked with updating the 121-year-old historical Tudor building to appeal to all the existing members, as well as entice a new generation of younger patrons.
The designers started at the bottom, excavating a formerly dark and tight basement to create a first-class athletic facility, complete with Jacuzzi, sauna, workout area and spa-like locker and shower rooms. F+M honored baseball great and avid golfer and former Presidio Golf Club member Joe DiMaggio, highlighting his locker in the remodel.
Upstairs, conversation, libation and celebration take the front seat. F+M choose a rich color palette that complements elegant carpet patterns and new custom lounge and dining furniture and updated lighting design that modernizes the rooms without diminishing the historic qualities of the architecture.
The fresh yet traditional atmosphere of the beloved Presidio Golf & Concordia Club clubhouse will continue to bring together new members to enjoy culture, community, wellness, fine dining, athletic competition and social camaraderie in the gem that is the Presidio.
This remodel captured the rich history of our Clubs while giving us the kind of stunning modern athletic facilities that new members expect. Our PGCC Clubhouse is truly refreshed.
The Club is thriving.
