GitHub IIDA AWARD 2014
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch. Doug Mehl of Fennie+Mehl Architects, Kate Hanzo and Rebecca Brownlee of Studio Hatch, and Scott Chacon co-founder of GitHub forged a unique collaboration in creating the one-of-a-kind headquarters of GitHub, a hosting service that itself facilitates collaborative projects. CRE’s Brian Trainor and Aly Ebzery helped grease the skids for the entire project. GitHub was founded in local cafes, dive bars and public spaces around the city, an agreeable arrangement for early employees. In a nod to those roots, the new space features two bars, three cafes, a library, an indoor park, a museum, a speakeasy and more. It’s a city within a city, offering employees a fresh space to work or play whenever the mood strikes. What could be more satisfying than collaborating on a successful design that supports a collaboration-centric business? Winning an IIDA Award for it.
